I always seem to be very picky when it comes to black metal, I only got into it later in life and after a good bit of persuasion by a good friend, and I still find it difficult to find artists that I resonate with. Well, it seems that Akhlys is one of them, this album came up in the suggested tab and I thought the same thing I always do, "The album art looks too cool for the music to be shite", not a perfect way of choosing music but it reminded me of the Scottish painter Ken Currie and anything with a similar vibe is intriguing. Seriously, I usually go for the more dreary and ambient slow-tempo stuff but this is so nicely balanced - a wonderful blend of sludgy, blasty and atmospheric, it feels like experiencing grievous bodily harm at the hands of an eldritch fishman while it tries to drown you in stormy coastal waters. 10/10

There are people that dislike this? I just cannot fathom that. Naas has been doing great work for a long time, and each iteration of his sound gets even more fine tuned than the last...I mean, for lack of a better word, Naas is a master composer of these nightmarish landscapes, how can you not bathe in their glory? Hail!

Oh yeah, oh fuck yeah! Together with Ulcerate we have 2 best albums of 2024 so far... Mgla, what are you waiting for?

I don’t see what the big deal is about this band, they don’t sound creepy or eerie at all they’re songs sound pretty much the same 🤷‍♂️.

4th listen so far. I think I like this a hair more than Melinoe. Though nothing comes close to The Dreaming I which I rank in my top 10 of all time.

This is unbelievably hype! Melinoe has been my favorite album of the last few years. Incredible artists.

Most within this genre nowadays has become a clone copying bore. But this is exceptional and fresh!! As a norwegian that is born in 78 and was seeing the uprising and beginning of the old-school black metal.. I must say this is truly some of the best I've heard in a very long time🤟🏻 Genuinely nightmarish and dark. Well done guys!

Once again: Is this metal anymore? The use of the guitars, the structure, the vocals, this is completely different from how a normal metal band composes their music. The semi-title track passage has exactly the same use of the "canonical" instruments. It is amazing how unnerving, how genuinely SCARY this album, this music feels. I have said it for Abigor as well, we are opening the door to something new and terrifying. The mix is absolutely delightful, perfect, crystalline, I love it. My only complaint I would have liked Sister Silence, Brother Sleep as an opener, it would have set a better pace. Still, fascinating work ❤
